According to European legislation [Regulation (EU) No 1169/2011], it is mandatory for all pre-packaged foods (with certain exceptions) to indicate the ingredients and food additives, the allergens that may be present and their nutritional value in order to provide consumers with correct information.

The new legislation covers both pre-packaged foods and those sold in bulk.

A nutrition label must include:

  • The name under which the food is sold
  • Ingredients
  • Weight or volume
  • Storage conditions
  • Shelf life and shelf life
  • Possible allergens
  • Nutritional information such as energy value, amounts of fat, saturated fat, carbohydrates, sugars, protein and salt.
